Celebration: Christmas Movies

One of the best parts of the Christmas season is Christmas movies. There are a few standards that I try to watch every year, like White Christmas and Love Actually, but I'm looking for some new ones to watch this year. Not necessarily ones that were made recently but new to me. For instance I watched The Christmas Story FOR THE FIRST TIME (Yes, that's right; the first time) only last year. So obviously my Christmas movie experience needs to be expanded. And I need your help. What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

White Christmas is, I think, the ultimate Christmas movie. I wanted to share two of my favorite parts of the movie - 1) where Danny Kaye does the "Choreography" dance and 2) where Rosemary Clooney sings "Love, You Didn't Do Right by Me" - but I couldn't find those clips anywhere on YouTube. So instead here is another of my favorite moments (I shared the URL in one of my comments earlier, but if you didn't check it out then, check it out NOW! My favorite part is at around 1:30.):

  1. If you can find it (I think it's on iTunes, but you'd have to pay for it) Black Adder's Christmas is one of my personal favorites.

  4. Jim, we've got to look that one up. I bet it's hilarious.

Emily, I'm so glad you like it too. I also enjoy Holiday Inn, but I've always like White Christmas better.

Ma, maybe we can watch it together sometime!

  7. I count While You Were Sleeping as a Christmas movie. And one of my good friends considers Die Hard her favorite Christmas film :). I am with you on preferring White Christmas over Holiday Inn. I also still love the old, kitschy stop-animation Rudolph.

  8. CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS! Another classic I have never seen. Must watch!

gnome: yes, you're lucky. But not only for that reason.

Ren: I love Rudolph, and have you ever seen the stop-animation Jack Frost? The only Die Hard I've ever seen is the latest one, but Jordan keeps promising we'll watch the others.

  9. Holiday Inn and I also include the Nightmare Before Christmas.

Oh, and it's not a movie, but every year I have to read "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever"

Miss you guys. Hope you are having a Happy Holiday in Nevada.

  10. what?? what?? you haven't seen a charlie brown christmas? well. i feel great for recommending it. really a must-see, since it's short and sweet and very inspiring, as much as a cartoon can be.

  12. love it. when I was 11 or 12, my friend and i won the top prize at the state fair singing and dancing to "sisters." so funny.

as for christmas movies, I must tell you that the very best by far ever is the muppet christmas carol. it is not just the best christmas movie of all time, i think it might be the best movie of all time. i have already watched it twice this year.

    we miss you guys!!

  14. Hanner, I'll let you know what I think after I watch it.

Spencer, I forgot I wanted to see that one too. Plus it's French, so it's automatically good.

Kimber, I can't believe I forgot about that one. The Muppet Christmas Carol is so good. We miss you too!

Suzanne, I think I've seen every Danny Kaye movie. That guy practically raised me...

Ninjapirates - who are you? Based on your name you are definitely someone I would like and are probably someone I already know...but WHO?

  15. Hey, it's Andalynn. Miss you. Two things I love, ninjas [and pretending to be one...just be glad you missed that phase] and pirates. Every year I have a pirate party on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Hence, the name.
